Privacy Policy

This policy covers both the Why You Lose Customers Shopify app and this website. It explains exactly what data we access, what we store, and why.

1. Who this applies to

"You" means the merchant who installs our Shopify app, or a visitor to this website. We do not knowingly collect data from a merchant's own customers or store visitors through the app — the app reads and audits page content, not shopper behavior or personal information.

2. What the app accesses in your Shopify store

When you install the app, Shopify grants it the following permissions, and nothing more:

  • Read products — to load product titles, descriptions, images, and SEO fields for auditing.
  • Read online store content — to load collection and page content for auditing.
  • Write products — used only when you click "Apply" on a specific suggested fix, to update that product's description, image alt text, or SEO title/description.
  • Write online store content — used only when you click "Apply" on a collection or page fix, to update that resource's content or SEO metafields.

The app never writes to your store on its own. Every write happens because you clicked Apply on a specific, previewed change, and every applied change can be reverted from within the app.

3. What we do not access

The app does not request access to your customers, orders, payments, or any other data beyond the product and content scopes listed above. We do not see or store your customers' names, emails, addresses, or order history.

4. What we store

  • Your shop domain and current subscription plan.
  • Audit results: the page content read at audit time, the score, and the suggested fixes.
  • A record of which fixes you've applied and their before/after values, so changes can be reviewed and reverted.
  • If you voluntarily provide your storefront password (only relevant for password-protected, pre-launch stores), it's stored so future audits can use it — this is your store's preview password, not your Shopify account credentials.

This data is stored in a Postgres database hosted on our infrastructure and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Third-party services we use

To generate rewrite suggestions, page content is sent to a third-party text-generation service for processing. That content is used only to return a suggestion to you and is not retained by us for any other purpose. Billing is handled entirely through Shopify's own subscription platform — we never see or store your payment details.

6. Data from this website

If you submit your email through the popup or contact form on this website, we store that email (and any message you include) so we can follow up with you. This is stored separately from any Shopify store data and is only used to contact you — never sold or shared.

7. Data retention and deletion

We retain shop and audit data for as long as the app is installed. If you uninstall the app, Shopify notifies us automatically and we delete your shop's data. In compliance with Shopify's data protection requirements, we also support and respond to:

  • Customer data requests — although we don't hold customer data in the first place.
  • Customer redaction requests — same as above.
  • Shop redaction requests — full deletion of a shop's stored data upon request or automatically after uninstall.

8. Security

Data is stored on encrypted, access-controlled infrastructure. Access tokens for your store are stored securely and used only to make the API calls described above.

9. Your rights

You can request a copy of the data we hold about your shop, or request its deletion, at any time by contacting us. Uninstalling the app also triggers automatic deletion.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app or this site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
